Nigel Pivaro
Description
Nigel Pivaro was born and raised in the heart of inner Manchester and Salford coming from English Italian parentage.
From an early age Nigel travelled widely, often to the family home back in Italy, then to various far flung destinations including South Africa, New York, Central America ,The Near East and Ukraine as an independent traveller.
Following his secondary education, Nigel did a variety of manual jobs before entering RADA after which he made his professional stage debut at the Theatre Royal, Stratford in 1983. This marked the start of nearly twenty years of acting work that saw Nigel take leading roles in theatre productions across the country. Nigel’s body of work has included everything from Ferdinand in Shakespeare’s The Tempest to Eddie in Berkoff’s Greek. In 1987 his own production of a newly written play by Rib Davies was awarded a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Festival.
Nigel also worked extensively in TV most notably creating the role of Terry Duckworth in Coronation Street, appearing regularly throughout the eighties and nineties. The character was last seen in the show in 2012 clocking up over 400 episodes, over a period of 29 years. He appeared in Radio Play Eastern Star by Guy Slater and produced by Clive Brill, broadcast on BBC Radio Four in September. Nigel played a BBC news editor managing the breaking news story about the student democracy protests in Myanmar.
In 2000 Nigel made a life changing decision to go into full time education and studied for an Honours degree in Contemporary Military and Political History at Salford University. This was followed by a Masters Degree in International Relations specialising in Terrorism at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Armed with these degrees, Nigel went on to qualify as a journalist working on local and regional titles before working for various national and international titles including The Daily Star Sunday, Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror, Catholic Herald, Daily Express, Die Zeit online and Jane’s Intelligence Review. In 2007 Nigel won the prestigious ‘How Do’ award for best print journalism for his work on the campaigning magazine the Salford Star. He has recently featured in The Corrupted for Clive Brill and BBC Radio Four broadcast April/ May 2020.
Nigel has recently?recorded Newman’s The Corrupted for BBC Radio Four playing his third character in the series EXO AVELUND.
While working as a freelance documentary maker with the BBC in 2008, he was nominated for an RTS award in the best regional documentary category.
Nigel has reported and continues to report on a wide range of subjects from show business to conflict in Syria and the disputed Donbass region of The Ukraine.
Nigel Just completed a further four episodes of The Corrupted for BBC Radio Four, playing the part of Executive Officer Avelund. This follows his earlier four episodes of The Corrupted, playing the parts of Detective Sergeant Allbright and Sir Micael O’Dell. (Broadcast May 2021)
He also recently voiced the contributions of serving Greater Manchester Police officers, in an exclusive report on BBC News night in which he also contributed as researcher in his other professional role as a journalist. ?(broadcast Monday June 28TH 2021)
