John-Christian Bateman
Description
Film, television, stage, and voice-over actor John-Christian Bateman is noted for his versatility. Originally from Toronto he trained in Paris, New York, and London, has worked in Canada and Europe, and performs in a wide variety of British and American accents and French.
He was the voice of the international advertising campaign for Bank of America Merrill Lynch (2014–19) and played Captain Bridgewater in the popular French TV drama series, Frédéric Krivine’s Un Village Français (2009–2017); the real-life, World War II diplomat-spy Hans Bernd Gisevius in Mike Fraser’s film, The Honourable Rebel (2015); other past film credits include the cult horror hit Fright Night 2 and romantic comedy The Callback Queen (both 2013). He recently finished filming The Consultant, for which he won two acting awards, and it is available on Amazon. He also appeared in the comedy horror When the Screaming Starts by director Conor Buro.
On stage he is noted for his Shakespearean roles which includes The Duke in Two Gentlemen of Verona, Duncan in Macbeth, and Claudius in Hamlet (which toured to Tiefburg Theatre in Heidelberg, Germany, in 2014). In 2023, he played the father of Juliet in a bilingual production of Romeo and Juliet. Other roles include Tchubukov, Luka, and Vershinin in Chekhov’s The Proposal, The Bear, and Three Sisters; and Barney Cashman in Neil Simon’s Last of the Red-Hot Lovers.
Recently, he appeared in the comedy The Hay Fever at the Edinburgh Festival 2023 and in the premiere of Bess: The Other Houdini at the Gatehouse Theatre, London.
