Award winning actor Chizzy Akudolu has become the recognisable face of Mo Effanga on Holby City. The hospital drama is Chizzy’s current and most successful TV credit to date, playing a Cardiothoracic Transplant Surgeon. Her portrayal has been very well received, leading to two Awards and a nomination for Best Newcomer at the NTA’s.
Chizzy has previously appeared in Eastenders, Dead Set and as the unconventional Fairy Godmother, Cookie in Jinx.
Having gained a degree in Criminology, Chizzy turned back to her first love: acting. In 2002, she entered an initiative called BBC Talent, in which they were auditioning for comic performers and writers. This led to The Urban Sketch Show, a showcase performed at the Tabernacle Theatre.
Her first TV credit came soon after, a small role in 15 Storeys High for the BBC. More credits soon followed, including a cameo in the critically acclaimed, In The Loop and The Inbetweeners. She also gained major recognition during her three-month tour of The Vagina Monologues.
Chizzy is also a writer, having had 2 staged readings of her debut play, The Rec Room at Soho Theatre. She has also written and produced two short films, …LIFE’S A BITCH’ and …5 MINUTES’, under her company name, Don’t Give Up Your Day Job Productions. Currently in development are a sitcom pilot and a feature film.
A skilled calligrapher and martial artist to boot, there’s much more to Chizzy than meets the eye.
